Anzac Day
26 April 2021
The Breeze residents did a wonderful job at coordinating a day full of activities to commemorate Anzac Day on Sunday 25 April 2021.
The day started with a Dawn Service in The Breeze’s Waterside Pavilion, where resident Andy read an Acknowledgement of Country, and resident Edmund gave a background history of the Dawn Service and reminded us of the loss of life, the wounded and all who have suffered or are still suffering the effects of war. Alice, Andy’s granddaughter then delivered the ‘Ode’ which was followed by the presenting of the wreath.
After the Dawn Service, residents enjoyed a much-needed barista-made coffee and homemade Anzac biscuits at the resident-run Coffee Shop. Meanwhile, our Social Group planted nearly 600 handmade poppies on the lawn in front of the Waterside Pavilion.
The day then continued on with residents participating in a game of bowls on The Breeze’s bowling green, a traditional game of Two-Up, and a BBQ lunch. Some residents even ventured out onto the surrounding waterways for a kayak.
After lunch, it was then time to sit back and relax for the Anzac Day AFL football match, which was played on the big screen in The Breeze’s theatre.
Residents Linda and Lindsay, who are both artists, also displayed their beautiful artwork they prepared to honour Anzac Day in our Waterside Pavilion foyer.
Anzac Day at The Breeze was enjoyed by all and it was fantastic to see our community come together to honour such an important day.
